God gives us his Law to show us what is right from wrong. It shows us how to love. It shows us how to live a good life. It also shows us that we cannot live up to it and we need a Savior- Jesus. It shows us our need for forgiveness of our sins.
None of us are perfect. So long as we live in our fleshly bodies, we will never be perfect in our behavior. That is why we needed Jesus to come and shed his blood for the remission of our sins.
I want to share with you some verses to help you understand that the moment you accept Christ as your Savior, you are forgiven of all your sins- past, present, and future.
Jesus told us in John 6:54
Whosoever eats my flesh, and drinks my blood has eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
What was he speaking of? Covenant. We have a New Covenant with God through Jesus Christ. We enter into it through belief (trusting in, relying on Jesus as our Savior). When we put our faith in Jesus blood shed for the forgiveness of our sins, we have eternal life because all of our sins (past, present, and future) are forgiven.
Collosians 2:13-15
And you being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh has he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all tresspasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
He blotted out all of our sins. He provided the way of forgiveness at the cross through His blood. We receive it and tell him so. Then it is done.
Romans 7:4
You also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ.
This means that we are no longer under the punishment for breaking the law when we receive Christ's sacrifice on our behalf.
I. Peter 3:18
Christ died for sin once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God....
He was our substitute. He was our representative man in this New Covenant with the Father God. He took all of our unrighteousness and gave us His righteousness. We are now and forever in right standing with God because of Jesus perfect life, death, and resurrection on our behalf.
Be at peace. God isn't against you. He's for you. He wants to help you overcome sin because it hurts you, and it could hurt others if you continue. But, He isn't mad at you. He won't forsake you. He has already extended His eternal and complete forgiveness to you.
God bless,
