What if your spouse is cheating on your visually or physically?
What if they aren't and don't seem like they ever will be repentant?
You do have Biblical grounds for divorce as supported by Matthew 19, however you do not have to exercise that option. Trust is so important, and if it does not feel as though your spouse is repenting in such a way as to win your heart back to them, separation (I Cor. 7) creates a boundary and can be an effective way to get someone's attention. It will force them into a reality check and expose their true intentions toward you. I would recommend that whatever you do, do it under the direction of God after prayer. God does allow you to divorce such a person, so you don't have to even ask Him, as his permissable will is shown in scripture, yet sometimes we miss out on something that could have worked if we don't ask God first.
Counseling and/or deep soul searching and discussion between the two of you should also provide the opportunity for the two of you to discover why your marriage was weak and vulnerable in the first place. This is a question that both the husband and wife need to address, even though the infidel is the one who is guilty of adultery. While adultery is always wrong in all cases, it can be a symptom of a poor connection for which both are responsible. However, it is not always the case. Some spouses are just cold, cruel, manipulative and selfish and the other loving spouse has nothing to do with their decision to sin.
