We are one with the Lord now.
I. Corinthians 6:17
But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
Once we are born again by receiving the free gift of life through Christ, we are united with the Lord in spirit. He actually takes up residence inside of our spirit being. We become the temple of God; each and every one of us. Our spirit being is the Holy of Holies, our flesh the outer courts.
Romans 8:11
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies.
This encourages me because not only does it further show that I am one with God, but that he is there to give life to my body as well as my spirit. We know that in the spirit we now have eternal life; and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God. We can see in this verse that God is also willing and able to heal our flesh. I believe that can mean our health as well as our weaknesses.
I. Corinthians 6:15
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself?
And our bodies are not independent parts of the body of Christ, we are together corporate members of His body. Together we make up the whole body of Christ. Different offices but all for the purpose of reaching the lost, and helping others in need.
So, since we are a part of Christ's body, and we are His holy temple, isn't it important that hold that place he has given us in His body in high regard and respect. If we are part of His body, His body should be doing the works of Christ; not believing the lies of the world and acting on them. We have such a higher calling in this world. We have true life to live; life we can NEVER find in the world's ways. They can't find life in their ways; it all leads to death.
But we cannot make ourselves a part of Christ's holy body by our attempts in the flesh to have good works. We ARE a part of Christ's holy body and the more we believe that, the more we will act like it.
Christ's body would never be, "united to a prostitute" (I. Cor. 6:15-16). Christ's body would never be united with the world. So how can we? Why would we want to live in what Jesus freed us from? Sin is bondage, not life! We have had it backward; we don't have to live free of sin to have unity with Christ. Christ has freed us from sin, so we can have unity with Him. Out of that unity can flow His life, His will, His heart. Our part is trust in what Jesus has accomplished and convince our fleshly minds of it. Our behaviors will follow our beliefs.
